I just installed new drivers for my video card and now everything is low resoultion in 4bit color?

i have a nvidia geforce FX 5200 and i am running it on a compaq 7500 monitor...if i uninstall the driver then it goes back to normal but everything runs very slowly because my video card is not in effect...i am unable to raise the resoultion or color depth with the driver installed though. I know for a fact i am installing the right driver off of the nvidia website. I have done this before and havent had a problem. the only thing i can think might effect it is my OS (windows XP) isnt completely updated...can anyone shed some light on this...i would greatly appreciate it|||Did you uninstall your previous cards display drivers? If they are left on a system, they may remain active and consume CPU resources which lower overall performance, especially when going from a non-NVIDIA based graphics card to an NVIDIA based graphics card. Please check that the drivers for your previous graphics cards have been completely removed from your system, sounds simple, but alot of folks miss that step.|||If you are sure you have the right driver, try going into your Device Manager and uninstalling the old driver. (Right click My Computer-->Properties-->Hardware-->Devic… Manager-->expand Display Adapters--right click your video card and click uninstall>) Also go into Add/Remove programs and remove anything Nvidia related.

Reboot your PC, after it's been rebooted, install the driver that you downloaded from Nvidia's site.
