Every time I try to run a video file with any of my players my system crashes?

I've updated the drivers for the video card and downloaded media player 11. Any help ?|||Upgrade your RAM if possible. www.crucial.com can do a free scan and give you upgrade options. It may not solve things but it takes less memory than other media players and when you run it from the command shell (not difficult) you will get useful messages which hopefully don't include errors.

I must say the size of the files I've been getting are larger than the size of equivalent files six months ago, and often it does take more memory to play avis or mkvs than it did then.

Video Cards. Please Help!?

I need to know how to choose a video card.

I've got the video card integrated with my Dell Dimension 3000 and quite frankly, its useless!

I've been looking at some more updated video cards, but then I don't know what kind of socket I need or have. I've checked the specs on my motherboard and it says I have a PCI-Express video card socket, so should I be looking for a PCIe Video Card?

And in terms of their memory jargon, my computer supports DDR2, and many of these cards are DDR3, does it matter when it's video cards?|||Your motherboard doesn't have a slot for a graphics card to be installed into, you are stuck with the integrated graphics you have... It is time for a new system...

As for graphics ram, you can use any graphics ram in a system you want to. The system ram is totally a separate category...

If i just downgraded my Vista to a fresh copy of xp, do i need to update my video card? if so, how?

Video Card dead or a Windows Issue?

I left my computer on before i left for school. When I came home i saw that my computer had restarted due to a windows update. After logging in i tried to watch a movie but the picture started lagging behind the sound. I did a virus sweep and found nothing, then when i tried to play a game i received an error message telling me that i did not have a compatible video card installed even though i could see it clearly in my case. In the device manager my video card is listed but with a little error sign beside it.

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)

I have tried installing the latest Nvidia drivers and that did nothing. I was hoping that Microsoft would release another update to help fix this issue but it has been almost 2 weeks and nothing.

I just want to know if there is any way for me to fix this or is my video card just toast.

That being said, the 9 series video cards are NOT Dx10.1 (let alone fully Dx10) compliant. They don't have the *physical* architecture on the chip.

You will probably need to disable any Dx10.1 or Dx10 features you may have active (like the animated wallpaper or Aero interface).

Hopefully you'll be able to fix the issue soon...without having to pay massive tech bills!

Good Luck!|||Open device manager, and select your video card, right click on it and select properties, then on the top tab, select driver, then look down and select 'roll back driver'. That should help.

Need help with video cards etc :(?

Hi guys.. I just downloaded a game and it's really laggy. ._.; My PC is pretty new, but I guess it has a crappy graphics card and stuff? I really need help with purchasing a decent/cheap card, maybe for less than $50. T_T; Doesn't matter if it's used. Also, can I add more GHz? I don't really know how these things work. x-x;

PS: When I play on the lowest settings, The lag reduces but it's still pretty laggy. ugh >.< The game is called 'Vindictus', and it's an online game.

The game's specs are as follows.

I don't feel the need to put the minimum requirements 'cause my PC pretty much passes it.. but it still freakin lags. >.<;

** Recommended: **

OS: Windows XP or higher

CPU: Duo Core or Higher ------ (What is this??)

RAM: 1 GB or Higher

HDD: Over 6 GB of Free Space

VGA: Nvidia GeForce 7xxx Series

Sound: 16 Bit Sound Card

Mine:

OS: Win-7

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) II X2 215 Processor (2CPUs), ~2.7GHz ------ (What's the AMD Athlon for? >.<; Also, the minimum specs for the game is 2.4GHz)

Memory: 4096MB RAM

HDD: 392GB left after installation of the game.

There's also other stuff on the Display tab, i don't really know which one's helpful but here's some:

Name: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce430 (The minimum specs for the game is 5xxx Series).

Approx. Total Memory: 1848 MB

What do you think I should update? I've never really messed with my CPU before. My friend said it was pretty easy to install the hardware..? idk >.<; Anyways, Thank you in advance.. I've actually been meaning to buy a graphics card for a while now but I just don't know which one..|||Your CPU is fairly decent. No need to touch it, no upgrades needed.

As far as your graphics performance goes, it's currently very poor because you are using an integrated graphics chipset, which has very little processing power and has to rely on system RAM to use as VRAM.

So the best thing you can do for it is to add in a dedicated graphics card, unfortunately with a budget as low as $50 there aren't many good cards laying about that you can buy -- so you might have to try and win an auction from eBay for cheap.

Try a Radeon 4670 for example (auction ends in 17 hours)

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sapphire-Technology-…

Though I would suggest buying new:

$62

Radeon 5550 (slightly more powerful, only costs a tad more, and it comes with full 2 year warranty. You don't get that with a 2nd hand card)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Both cards require a 400watt power supply at the minimum.

Video card making my computer crash after a surge.?

We had a power surge a while ago that burned out the power unit on my computer, I finnally got it replaced after like a month. Now, the computer crashes if I play a high-graphics game (which i was able to run perfectly fine before) and reboots itself, then tells me the crash happened bc of the video card. It is updated and changing the device settings caused the computer to automatically crash and restart over and over until I told it to convert back to 'last settings that worked'. What's odd is it only does it about 20 or 25% of the time. What's going on?|||Did you replace the video card after the surge? If not, it may me that it also was slightly damaged. Maybe you could try a new card.|||Check to make sure that your fan on the video card is running. When you are pushing your graphics card it draws more power and could be crashing your system.|||I had a similar problem a few years back after my generator got a little excited and decided that 400V was better than 240V. (UK). I had two computers, both lost their power supplies, on one of them(the better one, of course) the chipset literally exploded, the hard drive lasted about another week. The other ran with a new PSU but was always unstable after that. When I looked at it, I realised that all the capacitors on the motherboard bulged out at the top instead of being flat. So all I can suggest is trying your graphics card in another computer to work out if it's the card or the motherboard. I suppose that you could replace the capacitors if they're like mine were if you were inclined to do so but maybe it's time to consider buying a new machine?

It worked for a year and then when they added an expansion pack which "improved" the graphics engine so that it showed water and trees better, my graphics card could no longer handle it.

I had an ATI graphics card and I ended up switching to a card that uses the nVidia chipset, since that was recommended by the software company.

At least WoW tells you that your card is out of date and needs to be updated. So here is what you do:

1) Go to the Intel website and look for new drivers for your specific model of video card. Arrange to install them to replace the ones you have now. This will usually provide some improvements to the way the card does its job, and Blizzard may be fine with that new driver in place.

2) Check to see if you have "dxdiag" on your system. It should be there if you have the DirectX 9 software. Just go to the MSDOS shell prompt and type in "dxdiag" then press ENTER. It should pop up a window and show you all the details about the DirectX software that is installed. Look on the main page at the bottom and make sure it says "DirectX 9.0c"

3) If updating the driver and the DirectX software (if necessary) don't resolve the problem, then it may be time to purchase a replacement video card. If you have an on-board video card, you should be able to set it to disabled in the BIOS (when the system boots up) so that any new video card you buy can be inserted and becomes active. When buying a new card, you need to know the type you need. Older PCs may have AGP-style cards or PCI cards, while the new ones use PCI-X (called PCI Express).

Hope this helps.

Steve|||Try visiting your PC manufacturer's website and downloading the drivers for your video card. Can't figure out how to update drivers for motherboard to install a new AGP video card, please help?

I'm trying to install a Radeon video card to update from my ancient Nvidia one, and the first step is to update the AGP drivers for the motherboard. It said to go to control panel, system, device manager, and system devices. And here I'm supposed to find the chipset manufacturer's name so I can update the drivers? All I see that seems appropriate is "Intel 8w443BX Pentium II processor to AGP controller." Then it says to double click on the name and go to the Driver tab and then go to the Driver Details button. But the button is fogged out, it's lighter, you know, like when they make it so you can't click on it. So I don't know how I'm supposed to update the drivers... The video card I'm using currently is an AGP one, so do I really need to update anything? It says "Not only do you need display drivers for an AGP graphics card, you also need drivers for your motherboard, which enable AGP functionality for the motherboard chipset." And that makes me think it's fine how it is.|||Thank you for providing some really important information to help everyone give you the correct answer...

You are trying to go into the CONTROL PANEL etc to update a driver,

howerver, you must realize that if you get in to the correct section,

it will automatically ask you WHERE IS THE NEW DRIVER, expecting a CD, a floppy, a web address, etc. and you have indicated that you don't have these...

(DELL usually has a hidden partition on the harddrive, with all the

files needed to get your computer going, and all the "old" drivers..

Sometimes it is deliberately hidden from windows, so you can't immediately see it. These "original" drivers are likely out of date, by the time you purchased the unit! There "may" be the manual and other technical information in files, hidden as well. Check you

settings to see under folder options is there are HIDDEN READ ONLY and SYSTEM file checkmarks to hide the files...)

Your Chipset, as you have indicated, is from the INTEL chipsets,

and you can get an all-in-one chipset driver from the INTEL

website that finds the correct chips and upgrades them.

DELL, at thier website may have newer updates by putting in

your model number.

You might get the name of the "actual" motherboard manufacturer if you can navigate into the BIOS and remove the

" DELL" welcome screen at startup, to see the actual BIOS start screen. "DELL" usually uses some brand name manufacturer

to make the motherboards, and information "may" be available on

the original website, for that, or some very similar board.

( ex. Dell uses a real "INTEL" motherboard, origianally a P7AM-QV, and has intel modify it specifically for DELL, labelling it

the P7AM-Q33 , but they are essentially almost identical, so the

manual on the INTEL website will give you a great deal of info.)

Dell " may" have the manuals, the drivers, the updates, the BIOS

updates, and links to the INTEL chipset, all there for you... ( hopefully )

If this is not an INTEL motherboard, and just "uses" INTEL chips,

then you may find the motherboard by opening the case and shining a light on the white print to see if it has a model number and reveision number.

You can also use software to go in and read the BIOS and chips to see if this will give better information...

TRY the Dell First.

Then try the sofware ( listed in a similar answer below )

Then try looking at the motherboard...

Try the INTEL chipset update.

You will probably be ok, since DELL is a big corporation, and you should find all the info you need on the web...

Once you have updated the motherboard, then you install the video card. Then, you go to the Video card WEBSITE and update

the just- installed driver, sice they update VERY frequently !

Save all the updates to everything an a CD so that you do not have to find everything again !

HERE IS A SIMILAR QUESTION with some information that

might help.....

How exacly can i tell what company manufactured my motherboard?

I recently added a new hard drive (as a slave drive) for extra memory. but the video files i have on the new hard drive skip and is kinda choppy the first time you play the video. i was told to try to update the driver for my motherboard but i dont know who manufactured it.

This is a common problem...

(( ladyfirst, in her answer below gives a link to a 4 meg download,

free, that I tried, and like hundreds of similar applications,

may interrogate your BIOS, and analyze your system, and

may give you details simply by running the program... I would

suggest trying her method. I ran it on my computer, and it was

VERY good at comming up with " MOST" data, although, digging

up the specific REVISION NUMBER of the BIOS may be out,

still, you might be given the actual www.address of the manufacturer to search for more info....

Try these links with the software, and see if they all agree, :

EVEREST

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.h…

COMPUTER CENSUS

http://tucows.com/preview/502506

ASTRA32

http://tucows.com/preview/348128

MvPCinfo

http://tucows.com/preview/404367

(( there are dozens of these types of programs, and you can

use yahoo search or dogpile.com search to find a great many more... _)

Iff this fails, then you

can just open the case and, if lucky, can read the manufacturer's

name and model number somewhere on the board using a

bright light. You may even find the REVISION number. Sometimes the information is obscured by the AGP card or

a PCI card, but these are not difficult to momentarily remove....

otherwise, follow BELOW : ))

[[ Another tip.... if you are "UPDATING" your motherboard with

a BIOS FLASH, proceed very carefully. Make certain your floppy

is 100% CLEAN ( use a floppy cleaner disk with white fiber disk,

and alcohol bottle in the kit... sometimes available at the dollar store, but well worth it... test a few read/ writes, and a scandisk

on a newly written floppy ).

SAVE the old BIOS , even though you don't have to. AND, if

ANYTHING GOES WRONG DO NOT SHUT OFF THE POWER...!

If there is a disk read / write error, get another disk, on another

computer, and use the other disk ( which the computer would not know was a new one, and continue... ) You can even, CAREFULLY exchange the floppy macnine itself.... ANYTHING, but remove the

POWER... ! ! ! Read the instructions carefully, and print them out. And, again, it is vitally important to know the correct revision number, and make certain that it is valid for the BIOS revision

you are using to update....

It is also a good idea to have a battery backup UPS running

during the BIOS FLASH, so that a tiny power glitch would not

destroy your BIOS, --- if anything went wrong, your entire motherboard would be useless...

After upgrading the BIOS, then you can use the CHIPSET upgrade software that will update things, typically like AGP to

PCI bus drivers, PCI drivers, clock timing upgrades, and sound,

lan, modem, etc. drivers if any are onboard. ]]

IFF these methods fail, then:

1/ Rip apart your entire computer and read BOTH sides of the

motherboard and all the sticky labels, particularly on the

first side of the last card slot, and write down all the numbers and

names, and hope that there is something in ENGLISH, that

looks like a model name, and a revision number.

If you are lucky, the NAME is in bold white screen print on the

top, and the REVISION number is printed in a corner somewhere

or on a sticky label on or near the BIOS, with something like

rev. 1.02b

If you are experienced you can sometimes tell who probably made the board by the colours, the way the traces are made,

the configuration, the chips used etc, and some of the codes

written on the sticky labels...

Sometimes the label and model numbers are on the BACK,

which is a real pain, since you "HAVE " to remove the board

itself...

2/ you can try to stop the BIOS BOOT sequence at the start of

the BOOT procedure and read the information on the screen.

Sometimes it will STATE IN ENGLISH the model and make

and revision number as part of the BIOS routine,,,,, JOY

Sometimes it will just give you a long BIOS REVISION

code

like Ac00287-BC8djJ-0030300228-12kidj or something, and

you have to go to the BIOS manufacturers website and

look up the code on a list.... ( AMIBIOS, etc. )

I answered this question just a while ago, repeated here with

more details....

I put your question on my watch list.

The answer to hit the PAUSE / BREAK is 'sort of "

correct, once the first page is finished and the POST

starts, pause will usually work, but the VERY first

screen, with the BIOS revision number usually

blinks so fast that it is impossible to stop on

many computers. This BIOS revision number is

often a key to determining what revision, what

manufacturer, and what company the computer

is .... I have hundreds of computers, and there is

no "rule " to get the screen to stop.... Sometimes,

pause may work... but usually on 286's or 386's,

-- the new computers are too fast to control...

(( Since I have ... HUNDREDS .... of computers,

most come with no manual, and HUNDREDS of these

motherboards have NO MARKINGS whatsoever that

cross reference to any known motherboard by any known

manufacturer. In fact, countless mothrboards are

illegal clones, first commissioned by a large, known

corporation, and then "cloned" cheaply at the factory,

deliberately hidding all identifying markings. The only way

to track down what the board was originally, is to get the

printed BIOS version on the first screen, and go to

the BIOS manufacturer's website, and cross reference

the BIOS # with known listings. In many cases, the

sequence, even then, will list A046B1A-004124 as " other",

or, the cloning assembly line has put in a BIOS revision

number that is not listed at all... Since many of the hundreds

of motherbaords I bump into, are strange, and from around the

world, there are many instances where the Manufacturer,

the Board Name and the Revision number white printed

clearly on the board, mean nothing, with no web search, and

no technical website postings finding anything or anyone who has

heard of the company or the board... There is an exception to

every rule { all motherboards are clearly identified in white

printing }, and I get a great many of the unidentifiable boards,

simply BECAUSE, no one else knows what to do with them !

see my website, kidbots.com ))

I hope someone comes up with something I have never

seen before.... good luck.

As you can see, finding a manufacturer is not a guaranteed process... the odds are, though, that you will find the information

easily - strange boards are getting rare...

FINALLY...

If updating the BIOS, the DRIVERS, and the software viewer

and CODECS does not work, then you have an issue, not with

the software, but with the hardware - is the harddrive a fast one

with large cache? is the cabelling the best configuration?, do you have an ATA drive needing an 80 wire cable, and have only installed a 40 wire? Is there another mechanical and BIOS

location that allows the hardddrive to function faster? Are there

settings in your Operating System that allocate more RAM to the

software viewer, so that it runs faster? Is there another Viewer program that is more efficiently coded that will speed up the

transfere reate, so that the videos run smoothly? etc. etc....

There may be other issues here that are not immediately apparent. On the new drive, go to the manufacturers website and

see how much cache ram is on the Drive board, and what

the RPM ( Pevolutions per minute ) speed is. 7,200 is normal

today, and higher end drives are 10,000 RPM. 5,000 is middle of

the road, and 3,000's are slow, etc. You can compare the same

read times and latency and RPM for the new drive and your old

one to see if there is a major performance drop.

I would also search around for better designed viewer software.

There are any out there, and you might be surprised with much

better performance.

robin|||try the microsoft update site; there check the 'custom" update box... this will then scan your system and if there is something for your particular card, it will show up, download and install as per usual.|||You should have the drivers disk that came with your computer or motherboard. Make sure all the drivers are installed from that. You should have a disk that came with your video card that has the drivers on it also. Install those.

Are you sure that the video card you bought is securely installed?

Is it compatible with your Operating System?

Is it 4X or 8X. There is a difference. Is it backwards compatible?

You can also check the Computer Manufacturer's, motherboard, and video card manufacturers' websites for compatibility and drivers which should be better than the ones that came with your OS or computer.

Another thing you can do if you have drivers is to go to your Device Manager and uninstall your Display adapter. Then either hit Action and Scan for Hardware Changes, or shut down and reboot your computer.

Windows will find any new Plug and Play devices for you.

Good luck.|||OK..you have a dell computer and you need to update the motherboard APG controller. This is part of the Intel NorthBridge Chipset of your motherboard, the 440BX chipset to be exact. Since you did not mention your Dell model of computer, I can't give you the specific Dell webpage. This is an old computer, but I did find the drivers for the chipset on the Intel website. Since you did not mention your OS, I put the top level link for your chipset here. Download the Chipset ID software first and run that to be sure you are getting the correct drivers. If this is the correct chipset then the last time the driver was updated was 5/6/2002.

How do you update integrated video cards?

I have Dell computer, and I have a few games on it like Halo CE but the games give me warnings that my computer is below the minimum spec. I know that dell has integrated video cards, says a good friend of mine, but I want to be able to run this game clearly. So my question is, how do i update this integrated video card? I need the help ASAP because i want to be able to run games on my comp.

My machine info is: 2400 MHz, 64M Intel 865G (0x2572) thats what it says when I try to run a game, and yes ive had this computer for a long time...|||There's a big difference between Updating and Upgrading.

You meant Upgrading.

If you want to upgrade the integrated video card then the simplest way is to buy a video adaptor card. Which one you need depends on your motherboard. Had you mentioned the model# of your computer then it would be easy to know which one you need.

You see there are different types of video adaptor cards. There's PCI, AGP, PCI Express etc... you need to know what type of slots your motherboard has before making a choice or it may not be compatible.

Once you have determined the type you need then to the store you go. Install the new video adaptor card. It's not true that the system will disable the integrated video card automatically. You need to disable the integrated video card within the BIOS settings or you may have Device conflicts between the 2 cards. What the system will do is automatically disable or remove the driver for the integrated video card when the new driver for the new video adaptor card is installed.

Tapping a certain Fkey while booting the system will get you in the Bios. Check with Dell to see which one it is for your System.|||you have to buy a new graphics card, if its a optiplex, Dells main model (should be on front) you will need a AGP card as thats the only slot it has, it will also not have room for a full size one so you will need whats called a small form factor one which is about half of the size.

Dan|||go to dell support site--put in your service tag or model. . u meant upgrade? buy a graphics card, install it and it will automatically disable the integrated one..

Video card troubles?

I plugged in a video card into the pci slot and everything worked fine, except everytime I did those periodic updates from microsoft and norton, it wouldn't work, the computer would boot, but the moniter would say no signal, I would change the slot the card was in, and reboot than it would work fine, however, the last time I did this, it didn't fix the problem, I never disabled the onboard video card (option not in bias and cannot locate the jumper) but now nither card will "awaken" a monitor so that I can at least see the computer boot, not the old card nor the new one. (I used the new one to S-Video to my TV) any help please? atleast get me able to see my pc again...|||When you go into the BIOS and tick the onboard video and change it to disable, it should ask you to hit F10. That will save the choice to the CMOS and you should have no issues. But if that doesn't do it and you need to use jumpers, go to the mother board maker's site or what ever company made the machine and get the pic (should be in a PDF file).|||The video card may not be plugged in properly or there may be a short somewhere. Anyway to update Toshiba video card?

Okay I have a Toshiba laptop, and I'm starting to see flaws about it. It doesn't have a high enough video card to support games I have (Sims2) and It doesn't support my HD videos that I import from my Nikon d90. I've searched around the internet looking for ways to upgrade the card, but the only advice I've gotten is go buy a new computer. I CAN'T! I just got this computer a year ago and now I'm near hysterics because movie making is the main reason I even have a computer, so now that it can't even hold my videos, I'm upset. Is there ANY possible way to get this upgraded without having to buy a whole new computer?|||Aint no software gonna make a hardware problem go away! Your onboard video isnt gonna cut it. At best, you might try going to the pc mfgs site and downloading the latest driver

for gaming you need a desk top they can be upgraded every time new games come out|||if you are really good with insides of compuyter.... try to update the drivers... you might have to download mobility modder to get the new drivers though|||Can't do it on a laptop|||Yah there is a way, it is unfortunate you did not fully specify what kind of toshiba laptop you are using. Anyway this is what you will need to do, go to http://toshiba.com and then under consumer products click on laptop computers and go to http://explore.toshiba.com and then click on accesories tab and look for a video card that is good for your laptop. Intel Or NVidia or ATM ... ?

just know the name and search about the drive like "download nvidia drive" or intel vga drive like this|||Wow. For one, you're using a pirated version of XP, which might come with all kinds of problems. For two, nothing you've told us indicates what model of computer you have or what kind of video card you're using. For three, watching videos has diddly to do with the video card.

If it says "VGA video controller" then the driver isn't even installed. Find out what video card you actually have, get the driver for it, and then try.

Semantics. Pirated copies of XP are often modified, some pretty extensively, with potentially unreliable third-party hacks, and not just the ones that disable WGA.|||Try downloading Direct X, or check if you have it installed by going to

Start > Run > Type dxdiag > make sure your version in Direct X 9c

And you cant have a pirated "version" of XP, its just normal XP but with a key you didnt pay for, so I wouldnt worry about that.

Sum'n bout a video card. . . what does this mean?

Sims 3. . . halp! o:

i installed it into my laptop with all the latest updates and whatnot but when i press the 'play' button it keeps saying this:

Unable to start game

Device 0 cannot run this title.

Your video card does not appear to support at least Shader Model 2. Please upgrade your card.

d: it makes me sad that i'm not computer savvy like you fine people out there. any suggestions? thanks yous.|||Your graphics card is too old.|||*sigh* it means your graphics card well essentially....is very outdated and isnt a very good one if it cant run sims 3. Well if you have a desktop then you can replace the video card just take it into a computer shop or best buy geek squad and ask them and they'll even install it for you. then you should be fine. But in all honestly even laptops these days are VERY good. and if you can invest 600-700 dollars to get a new laptop go to best buy and have them help you pick one out. they'll explain what makes a good laptop. But yeah....i honestly think you should just invest in a new computer and use the one you have now as a family computer for web browsing and sending email and what not. and get a new personal device.|||What it's saying is, you need a better Graphics card.

The down-side is! You cant replace a graphic card on a Laptop.

So let's say you got get a PCIex16 card, and you only have a PCIex8 port, the card will run at the 8 not the 16. You should be alright getting a mid range PCIe card though. Also if you type

To start Microsoft System Information, use either of the following methods:

Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Information.

Click Start, click Run, type msinfo32.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.

If you go to hardware, you should be able to see your main board, bios, video card the whole works.

PS: And yes some video cards require a higher wattage power supply so make sure you know your power supply wattage beforehand, most are around 300-400w, newer cards need 450-500w power supplies.|||Well i need information on your power supply, and case. you can't just give me a motherboard!!!|||You will have to search on the internet to see what your motherboard can support. Hello everyone i need video card help?

i am normally very good with pc's but i always get confused with video cards i am building my own gaming pc i know that i need a good video card and psu and cpu along with the other stuff but i get confused on how they are ranked like how do you know a nvidia gtx 590 is better than a AMD 5850 i just get confused when they talk about video card specs

also if u wont to be extra help full can someone please leave a link to a good but the no more that £160 video card i can always update then my pc is built i have enough money he he lol :) :D

thanks again|||Well with the NVIDIA cards they usually start GTX then 3 numbers. The first number is the series (the higher means newest) the second is usually refers to the performance level (higher is better). For instance at gtx 470 is similar performance to a gtx 560 but the 560 is the newer card.

The AMD cards are similar but 4 numbers again the first is the series the second and third tend to dictate the performance level in that series. For instance the 6000 series are amongst the newest and the 6990 is the best in that series. HD6950 is an example of a modern mid to high end card and a GTX570 is NVIDIAs similar level card.

Most gamers will be looking at GTX 460 (sinlge or pair), GTX 560Ti, GTX 570, GTX 580 etc. And AMD HD 6870 (probably where you should start looking or one of the newer spec overclocked GTX460's (1Gb versions). I bought a HD 6950 which is really good and maybe find for £160 now.

One word of caution most AMD cards I have bought (HD****) are good but tend to be less "refined" than NVIDIA cards (GTX***) in that they tend to have more glitches, some are also quite loud and the newer cards run pretty hot to compensate. You do get more for your money with AMD and are great if set up well but I would opt for a 460 just to be safe and value.|||The card i have atm is AMD Radeon HD 6770, so far there's nothing that it can't handle and it goes for under £100 on amazon, i'm sure you can find it cheaper elsewhere though.

Be sure your PSU can handle the graphics card though, the better the card, the more power you need.|||As a general rule, look at the number of processor cores - for AMD and Nvidia - the more, the better, but also take into account memory - larger for higher resolutions and multi screen gaming - and the number of gpu's. For example, the gtx 590 is 2 gtx 580s in one card, and the 6990 is also a dual gpu card. As far as choosing between AMD and Nvidia go, if you plan to use your pc for pure gaming, get an AMD card. However if you plan to use your pc for other things, such as photoshop, video editing etc. then an Nvidia card is definitely the way to go.

A final piece of advice, you get what you pay for. If you skimp, you will be dissapointed.

Hope I helped clear this up for you XD

*EDIT*

Also have a look at this website if you want to compare performance: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/

How can i reload my video card driver without software?

i dont know where my software is, and i do not have an internet connection on that computer. how can i update my driver without either of these?|||get the Video Card model or mother model and just go to internet cafe and download the driver corresponding site and copy to Pen Drive and instal it|||Your going to need either a disk with the driver or internet connection.

The best thing to do would be to figure out the video card you are using and find another computer that has access to the internet. Download the driver there and then transfer it to your computer.

Is there a difference beetween a (grafic) card and a (video) card or are they the same?

im trying to install a pc game and im getting a message that i need to update grafic card OR video card (whats) the problem? thanks in advance.ps if i need to update drivers where do i go on pc to check it???|||"graphic" is spelled with a PH, not an F.

Anyway, they're the same thing (synonyms). It's likely your video card isn't designed for gaming and cannot handle the game. If you have a desktop, you'll need to upgrade your video card. If you have a laptop, you'll have to buy an entirely new computer.|||There one and the same...in your instance your trying to play Intense "graphics" games so you need a "video card" that will handle those Intense "graphics"!

I'm trying to play it, but it's saying my video card or graphics or whatever is outdated. How can i update it to play it?|||You will need to buy a video card and upgrade your computer.

Although, if it's *Minecraft* telling you that your system is not up to specs, you may be better off just buying a new computer, since yours is pretty out of date.

I have a gateway gt5628, I want to update video card, compatible?

My video card is 256 mb DDR2... I want to upgrade to a Geforce 220 ssc 1024mb GDDR3 pci-e 2.0 x 16.........my pc has 3 gb DDR2 dual memory and 400 watts. Will someone please tell me if this video card will work on my computer, do i need also to install 1 or 2 more gigs of ram? THNX......Also video card burned/broke, will new install have any issues since i can not uninstall old video card?|||*** Update ***

That card is fine, and being GDDR3 is a bonus. Your motherboard memory type (DDR2) only limits the system RAM you can install, it doesn't apply to video card memory, since video cards have their own memory controller that handles the onboard memory... GDDR, GDDR3 and GDDR5 cards are all compatible with your motherboard.

That's a nice price after rebate. I wouldn't spend $85 up front for a GT220 when a GT240 is $79 out the door and $59 after rebate on Newegg (a 512mb GT240 still flies past a 1gb GT220) but Mwave has a good deal there.

Don't worry about uninstalling the old card via device manager- the OS recognizes that it's gone automatically. However, you can still go into control panel and remove the old Nvidia graphics driver software- which I recommend doing before you install the new card drivers.

Good luck!

****

OK... that card is compatible with your computer. Here are the specs on your GT5628:

http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/101473…

However, in order to install any new video card, you'll must physically remove the old one which burned/broke. There is only one PCI-Express x16 slot on the motherboard, and that's where your new card must go.

Assuming you're able to extract the old card and the PCI-E x16 slot is intact, you can get a nicer card than the GT220 for just a few dollars more. In particular, the Radeon 4670 and GeForce GT240 are better-performing options for about $10 more:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Here's the performance difference:

http://www.techspot.com/review/240-ati-r…

While your motherboard could accept an old-style PCI card, even the best PCI card is far slower than a PCI-Express GT220. If for some reason the PCI-Express slot is ruined and you were forced to use a PCI card, here's the only one worth buying:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Actually if what's left of the old burned-out card cannot be removed to make the x16 slot usable, you might consider heading to Ebay for a replacement motherboard.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie…

You have 3gb of RAM, which is plenty. Besides, with any 32-bit version of Windows you'd get almost no benefit from upgrading to 4gb- only about 3.25gb would be usable.

How do I update drivers to my video card on my laptop? I don't even know how to find what card I have.?

sometimes updating from device manager will not work. Instead you can either:

1. perform a search for your laptop's serial # or model # (found at the bottom of your laptop) and the results should return at least one page with the components of your laptop.

2. go to the support section of the manufacturer's site and search for your laptop either by model, serial # etc.|||go to the support section from your manufacturer's website.|||1-Right click in my computer icon

I think there's something wrong with my laptop video card.?

i have a samsung r780 laptop and i want to upload the sims 3 but it doesnt work. i'm assuming it's my video card because even when i go to play solitaire it comes up with "Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on." So i checked my hardware acceleration and it's on full. So i don't know if i need a new video card or if i need to update it. I don't want to buy updating software just for that. Hope use can help :)|||Did u try to update the driver. You should be able to do it free at the manufacturers website.|||There are different models of the samsung r780 ,there is one that has a nvidia gt 330m graphic card, if it's the one that a answerer had mention as well, still should be able to play sims 3 because your laptop is above the sims 3 minimum requirement , agree might just need a update from amd .com or samsung .com|||First of all, lots of low end laptops don't even have a graphics (video) card, they have integrated (or onboard) graphics.

Second, you cannot change or upgrade a graphics (video) card on 99% of all laptops.

Here are the specs for Samsung R780 laptop:

A couple of questions about laptops video card?

A good friend of mine recently gave me his old (of about two years) notebook computer, and I've been working on updating it. From what i've found online the only thing that I can't upgrade is the video card, right? Other than that, how would I go about finding out what video card is actually in this computer? If I did everything right, I'm sure that the driver for the one I have isn't working right, as in Device Manager the "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)" is in 'other drivers' and there is that lovely ?! next to it :P Any help on what I need to do next would be great, as I have no idea what I'm doing, and may be way off base lol ;_;|||for the most part older laptops have on board video so they are not upgradeable in that regard. your best bet so far as drivers and finding out what video card you have would be to contact the laptop's manufacturer with the laptops model number. they should be able to tell you what video chip set your laptop has and once you know that you can search for that chip set's driver either on the manufacturer's website or the many search engines on the web|||no u cannot upgrade video cards in laptops. to find out wat video card is in it look up the make and model number on the companies site and it should tell u and have a driver 4 it.|||right click your desk top and click properties and go to display settings. that should tell you what kind of video card you have. Update Your graphics card software first. See if it resolves the issues.

For AERO Troubleshooting:

First Try This, Here is a Mr. FixIt:

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/aero_e…

Note: The FixIT is for Vista but it works for me Windows 7 Ultimate.

If not, solves the issue: Then, Try This:

Force Enable Aero:

1.Open Registry Editor (RegEdit).

2.Navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software

\Microsoft\Windows\DWM

If the DWM registry key is not found, right click on Windows and then select New -> Key to create new branch and name it as DWM.

3.In the right details pane, create a new DWORD (32-bit value) named UseMachineCheck, and set its value to 0.

4.In the right details pane, create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value named Blur, and set its value to 0.

5.In the right details pane, create a new DWORD (32-bit) Value named Animations, and set its value to 0.

6.Restart the Desktop Window Manager Session Manager in Services in Control Panel (type Services.msc in Start Search), or run the following commands in a command prompt with administrator privileges:

net stop uxsms

net start uxsms

7.Attempt to enable and apply Windows Aero in Windows 7. Restart the computer if required.

Hope This Solves The Aero Not Working Issue.|||Well you need at least 8 megatytes of dedicated graphics memory to even think about running windows in colour mode. I have a 16 megatyte PCI express RAM just in case ;P But you wont need THAT much power LOL

[Tech Question: Processors/Video cards]?

I'm using a Dell Windows XP professional Sp2 and i'm planning to upgrade a few hardware but I'm not too fluent with the compatibility aspect.

So as it stands, my computer specs are:

Windows XP Professional SP2

Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz (Question regarding processors see 1)

1.00 GB RAM (Planning to upgrade it to 2 Gig RAM)

ATI Radeon X300/X550/X1050 Series (Planning to upgrade)

1. What matters in the end when buying the processors? I've looked at quite a few processors and I'm not sure whether to buy a single or duo core because for example, say you wanted to buy the processor that.. process information more quickly. Do you want the brand with "duo core 2.4Ghz, 2.6GHz etc..? Or do you want to buy a processor with the highest "X GHz". My current processor runs at 3.00Ghz. The "Duo Core runs at 2.4Ghz, but because its duo core (w/e that means) does it run faster than my 3.0Ghz? Mathematically, 3 > 2.4 so my guess is that my processor is faster.

2. I'm planning to upgrade my graphics card since my old one is pretty outdated. Ok all I know about a graphic card is that the more new it is, the better my graphics display will be. The real question is when I purchase my graphics card, will I need to buy any other hardware for compatibility's sake? (Say a new fan, power supply, RAM?) Also, what does it mean for a graphics card or external hard drive to have a "cache".

3. On a graphic card box, it often displays a number. 256MB DDR. can you tell me what this means? I know DDR is a type of RAM and MB is a unit of RAM but is the graphic card's "RAM" related to the computer's RAM? Is that something I need to worry about when updating my GC?

4. Say I wanted to play a game but it requires an updated GC. If I ran the game on my computer, with an old graphics card, will there be damages to my computer? Will the game work?

5. What is overclocking and should I worry about it given my current processor status?|||Id just get a new gaming pc since dell's and hp's are very hard to upgrade

How can i find out which VGA update to use?

I have a E-System 1212 laptop using Vista 32 bit system. My 3D screensavers and some games are telling me that I require 'a newer video card or one that is compatable with Direct 3D' I had no trouble with them until recently. Does anyone know which update I should use or how I can find this out? Any help would be appreciated.|||VGA is OLD! I think you're talking about something else.

Do you have a max of 256 colors?

Is your screen 640 x 480?

If you answered no to either of these questions, then you need to figure out what you're talking about. VGA first came into use in 1987. There's no way in this world that you need anything to do with VGA, especially if you're running Vista. However, if you're trying to play an old DOS game, I can tell you right now that Windows XP and later use a form of MS-DOS that is incompatible with most of the old games. 64 bit systems are just about completely incompatible.

Sorry. Email me when you get it figured out and I'll do my best to help.

BTW - It says on the Sims 3 system requirements page that you will have decreased performance on any integrated video chipset (which yours is). To get the best game play and video quality it is always best to play on desktops with a gaming video card. Obviously you don't want to just throw out your laptop and incure the expense of a desktop just for one game so your best bet is to update your video drivers to the latest and greatest and run the game with lower detail settings to reduce lag.

and i went to go to my device manager and proceeded to try and update it but my computer says the device is fully up to date and im running on the windows 7 operating systems and i need help please any help is useful besides telling me i need to update cause ive tried and it doesnt work

so thanks|||You dont list the graphics card that you are running, but it is quite possible if you are using onboard graphics that is does not meet the minimum specs that are required to play the game. Had you listed the graphics card, I could have posted a direct link to the drivers.|||Your graphics or display adapter is quite outdated for Windows 7. The drivers being used for old cards are actually Vista drivers and AMD does not claim full support in Windows 7.

If you are not inclined to upgrade your graphics card or display adapter, it may be best to run your PC on Win XP or Vista.

Do I need a new monitor or a new video card?

I got Steam installed and tried to play Left 4 Dead 2 but the graphics seemed horrible and with lag. I don't know what is the problem, is it the monitor or video card?

Also if I get an updated video card would I need a new monitor?|||What graphics card and monitor do you have?

I assume it is your graphics card, no an upgrade of graphics card does not require a new monitor|||Its your video card, unless you have one of those early 2000 massive monitors. But that would have far less influence on your gaming than your graphics card, because it is in charge of the graphics, so you could probably use a video card upgrade. Ill post a link to where you can find a new video card, in the sources.
