Do I need to update the video card when buying a laptop??

I am looking at buying a Dell laptop and plan to use it mostly for Word, but will probably add some photos and music. I do not plan on playing any games as I am not a big game player. Do I need to spend the money to upgrade the video card? Does the video card do anything besides make gaming better?|||Usually integrated graphics (or stock video cards) are good enough for most everyday computer use. If you are using it for any use other than gaming, (particularly, if you want to play the latest and greatest) video editing and a few other graphically intense uses, you don't need a new video card. If you do upgrade anything, upgrade to a larger, faster harddrive, faster, larger RAM and/or a faster processor (as these upgrades will increase the amount of storage space and application loadtimes) and will likely improve performance on the tasks you will be completing with it. That said, don't buy a Dell, buy an HP.|||Upgrading a video card on a laptop can be a nightmare, most are part of the mobo. Vista does require a bit more video power for aero glass. I wouldnt go whole hog but ask will it support vista premium.|||Your requirement is pretty light for the main processor and the graphics processor. Current integrated graphics would work well in 2D, Video and light 3D applications. Just get a laptop with 1gb or higher RAM and 120Gb or bigger hard drive for your music, photos and even videos.
