Do new video drivers really boost performance?

I was wondering if i got a 3850 HD ATI video card and updated the drivers to the most up to date drivers would it be just as good as the newer ATI?|||New video drivers do boost performance, but mostly for the newer cards. Driver designers don't put much effort into boosting performance on older cards.

Mostly, what they care about is what kind of performance numbers a new card gets when they release it, because that's what affects sales. Mostly those benefits 'trickle down' to older cards. So if they're going to benefit your 3850, they'll probably also benefit most of the superior cards too. The newer cards will still have the edge.

And many improvements will only work on newer cards that have the hardware to support them. (And sometimes they deliberately disable some improvements on older cards. They will usually claim it's because they couldn't/didn't test them, and in fairness, it does cost money to do that.)|||yes especially if it is nvidia make
