ATI video cards whitch is better?

I have a x700 Radian ATI video card, and I'm looking to update (This is a few years old, i think 3 years)

I'm trying to learn about the whole AGP, CPI/ express thing, and i think i have the basics down.

But the thing is, when i took my computer (A very nice computer, it may be 4 years old, but it's still considered a monster of a computer for gaming) The geek squad guy (A bestbuy computer expert) Told me the best I'm going to do, is a ATI 9800.

But i bought the x700 to replace the 9800 for 400$.

I'm confused, because i thought the x700 is better than the 9800, and i want to upgrade to the 2600 for 126$ (best buy has it for 199$, but i found it a lot cheaper).

Am i missing something? I'm not good with computers, and i just learned i need a x8 AGP slot- witch i have no idea if i do or not. I think i do, because PCI-express came out a few months after i got this computer- so logically (a noobs logic anyways..lol) shouldn't i have like a universal slot? or the best slot?|||First of all if you PC cost you $2500 dollars 3 years ago is not a monster for PC gaming specially if your video card is 3 years old.

The real answer, did you bough the PC from dell, hp or something like that so we can know the specs for the PC?

If you have the box for the x700 does it say PCI or AGP?

Oh an yes most motherboards that have PCIE x16 do not have AGP8X

Remember PCI is WAY different than PCIExpress

Try this website it has picture showing the different types, open your PC and remove the video card (ONLY IF YOU KNOW HOW) then look and see which one you have:

If the link doesn't work type "pci vs agp" on a search engine on the pictures tab.

Oh it doesn't matter if you bought it at dell.com the info is the same, what model do you have?
